The Cambwell flock was established in 1973 with the importation of Cambwell Constructor from the Gernex flock and two gimmers; the first from Lefaucheux and the second from +P. In 1975 a second +P gimmer was added and in 1978 a Gernex and Merre.

Most of these ewes are well represented within the flock. The Gernex ewe G. 77620 lived until she was 10 years old and it was her last daughter LTC 86043 that makes up the majority of the flock with the most offspring of all the imports and the family have won many Royal Highland and local show awards. The males include; Cambwell Immanuel, Puma 1,100gns, Wild Thing (Sire of 2,800gns gimmer, 2nd top price at 21st anniversary sale, Peebles 1995), Whizz Kid £1500, Ace 2,600gns, Action Man 2,400gns, Braveheart 1,800gns, Cantona 16,000gns, Cairn 5,200gns,Durie 2200gns, Hero 7500gns, Huricane 2500gns, Impressive 18,000gns, Impact3200gns Jackobite 50,000gns, Juggernaut 12000gns, OBE 10,000gns, Oscar 5000gns, President Obama 7000gns, Mountain 8000gns, Robroy 40,000gns and Socrates 28,000gns. The £15,000 top price shearling at Kelso was out of a 2200gns gimmer LTC07536 later sold for 4400gns at the Greypeel reduction sale. Also a ewe lamb sold to Ettrick flock won 1st prize ewe 1996 Royal Highland Show and went on to establish a successful breeding line.

The +P line has bred high quality rams:- Cambwell Sheriff £5000 (Sire of £12,000Turin Union), Swell (Grandsire of Collielaw Victor), Uplift £3200 (Maternal Sire of 17,000gns Tinwald Yorkie), Winner £4000, You-Cracker 9,000gns, Aga Khan 2,900gns, Borderer 2,500gns, Chieftan 3,200gns. The Midlock and Hartside flocks were founded on this family.

The Merre family has fewer descendents but includes Cambwell Bruno 9000gns, Baldrick,2800gns and the twins Dusty 3000gns and Darky 3200gns who bred very well in Northern Ireland. More recently Rankin whose semen was exported to Brazil in2011 and 2012.

The Lefaucheux line bred Cambwell Constructor 2nd who won the Royal show 1998 for Colin Pointing after being bought for 3000gns as a shearling at Lanark 1997.

In 1980, a ewe lamb was purchased from Ian Linton. Her grand-daughter LTC91 033 was 2nd at the 1996 Royal Highland Show and her first son was Cambwell Yer Man 3,000gns (Sire of Tinwald A-One). Her second son Ally was the massive Male Champion at the Royal Welsh Show 1996. Other descendents include 110,000gns Newhill Major and 16,000gns Laird daughter, sold to M Reid 2007. Her son Kelso Picasso, bred the 32,000gns Llangwn Rocky and 14,000gns Tullagh Saracen. Also Cambwell Powerhouse, our top priced shearling sold to date at Kelso £5200 and Outback and Obudsman both 5000gns.

At the 1993 Noresk Sale, Gimmer MDN 92011 was purchased. Cambwell Laird is line bred to this Tyn-Clawdd Task Master ewe, Cambwell Gigalo 5800gns, Immortal 5500gns and King 2400gns are also descendents. On the same day a full sister to Noresk Samson MDN 90026 was purchased. Her decendents include; Cambwell Muscleman 2800gns, Nugget and our top gimmers 2009 and 2010, sold 3,800gns and 3,200gns. In 2001 Garngour purchased a gimmer LTC 00081 for 2800gns and her descendents include the 40,000gns Garngour Nirvana, the grandsire of 220,000gns Deveronvale Perfection.

Further females were produced with the purchase of the Crawfordjohn ewe JRC07009 and the Croft ewe HRC 05030.
